St Mungo’s is calling for local authorities to urgently improve the advice and assistance they offer to people asking for housing help

Charles Fraser, St Mungo’s Chief Executive, said: “It is shocking that rough sleeping numbers continue to rise and yet more people are being woefully failed. Without urgent action, we are in danger of seeing a decade of destitution and despair.”

St Mungo’s is calling for local authorities to urgently improve the advice and assistance they offer to people asking for housing help, and central government to ensure that every council is doing its utmost to prevent homelessness.

Charles Fraser continued: “The responsibility for preventing homelessness lies with local authorities and that means improving their safety nets. The alternative is unacceptable year on year rising rough sleeping. We must draw a line, say no more and urge local and central government to act now.”
